Don’t be a turkey with your opt-in! Instead, grow a thriving online village.
The 3 Opt-in mistakes that’ll cost you. (And the 3 opt-ins that will create a community.)
1. It’s not about the newsletter anymore. Back in th early days of internet, the newsletter was the hot give-away! Sharing ideas and tips was all it took to get people in your list.
In today’s info swamped internet, it takes more than a newsletter to entice people to opt-in.
A free value-based guide, ebook or infographic carrries it’s weight in gold.
People aren’t going to part with their precious email address for just any old thing.
Which brings me to #2.
2. Diamonds are better than coal!
They may have the same basic make-up, but give a child a lump of coal for christmas and it means you were a “bad kid.” Give a woman diamonds and you have her heart forever!
It has to have a preceived value!
Free doesn’t mean it’s just any old thing you put together. It has to give your prospective tribe member a tip or piece of information that hits home and starts them on their way to solving that challenge that’s been nagging at them.
Which leads to #3
3. Your opt in has to be relevant to what you are doing to help people achieve the goal, relieve the burden, or solve the problem that they need to overcome.
For example, if you’re a candy maker, creating a guide or infographic about the benefits of feeding your cat natural cat-treats…not relevant to your business and your message.
Your opt-in is your way of introducing your craft, your wisdom and your valuable ideas to the world. Once people are “in” you can start to “wow” them with your expertise and create a beautiful bond!
If you’re at a stand still with creating an opt-in idea, leave comment below and we’ll come up with something. (Or, send me your question in an email HERE.)
Let the village gathering begin!
